Red Apple Lipstick Blush Swatch Galore & Review is finally here!!! Oh, the wonderful world of Blush 🌈! I am a certified blush fanatic, it’s true 😂, so blush is one of those makeup items I get super excited about! Blush makes a world of difference… I actually used to be one of those people who never wore blush because I didn’t want to make my acne-prone skin more noticeable. Then, when I finally got past my insecurities, i realized just how much blush can do! It accentuates your cheekbones, adds depth and dimension to your face, and creates the illusion of health! To top it off, blush is just so much Fun! It completes a look, sets a vibe, and adds a bit of spice. No matter what season or mood we’re in, we can always add some blush to create feelings of warmth, joy, or expression with colors of all kinds!
Blush is one of the most transforming makeup items out all the makeup products out there, IMHO, aside from a good foundation or “base”. Now that I exclusively use mineral makeup, I never have the issue of blush accentuating uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation with the majority of blushes I’ve tried. I’ve also realized that certain shades won’t highlight hyperpigmentation like some deeper shades might if I’m going through current breakouts on my cheeks. Cheek breakouts are some of the wooooorst, am I right?! They take forever to heal, often leave an indented scar because of the fragile skin, & the mark left behind takes the longest to fade in comparison to any other area on my face. So, with that said, blush can definitely be tricky! Especially for those that suffer from hyperpigmentation due to rosacea or any other hormonal concerns.
There is hope, ladies! With the right blush and some quality formulas, you’ll be feeling like the glowing from within goddess that you are! What I love about RAL blushes is that they offer a variety of Semi-matte to completely matte blushes for ALL skin-tones, so there is truly something for everyone. The actual consistency of the blush is very much akin to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting blushes, which are extremely finely milled blushes that just become one with the skin. That’s the best way I can best describe the fine, non-nano sized particles of the RAL blushes. Since the texture is so fine, it’s nearly impossible to apply too much, so if you’re weary or apprehensive about blush, this is a great line to look into!
RAL uniquely compares each blush shade to a skin tone that it would ideally be suited for, which is super interesting because we definitely don’t see enough of that in the green beauty realm! However, I’m here to show you what each shade would look like on my fair skin, with yellow undertones (I’m basically a human sheet of paper 😅) so my face is perfect to swatch blushes to show how the shade appears on the skin of a fair toned person. Of course, this is just to give an idea, because if your skin tone is deeper, you’ll have to imagine it on yourself, but this will hopefully help get you there! I’ve been testing these babies for quite some time, so I can honestly say that each shade is also beautiful for all year long, no matter what season we’re in!
Starting with the very, very lightest shade and working our way through cooler to warmer tones.
Dolly: Up first is this ever-so-dainty, whimsical wisp of the sweetest, fairest warm pink in Dolly 😍🌺✨✨✨. At first, I took one look at this shade and was like, “that’s a highlight, no?” 😂 because it’s SO fair in the pan. Ladies, if you are not a “blush” person, then this is THE shade for you! Or, if you know of a teen who’s looking to explore the world of makeup, shades like Dolly are a great place to start. You literally can’t go wrong or put too much on, so have no fear! It adds the faintest hint of color that subtly defines one’s cheekbones & will never, ever accentuate hyperpigmentation of any kind 🙌👍. This is such an incredibly versatile shade because it doubles as a blush topper since it has this gorgeous soft, pearlescent sheen, & would serve as a lovely highlight on deeper skin tones! This particular shade reminds me SO much of the hourglass ambient lighting powders: it literally has the same exact effect! Dolly is also a beautiful one and done eyeshadow shade! I wasn’t sure what to make of Dolly at first glance & now I’m utterly obsessed.. A day has not gone by where I haven’t used Dolly in some way!
Gotta Glow: RAL’s dupe of Nars Orgasm with a perfect blend of mid-toned peachy-pink with a soft golden sheen that makes you look like you’re glowing from within! The original Nars Orgasm has chunky glitter & you will find none of that here!! This is the kind of blush shade that goes with ANYTHING and you never have to wonder if it’ll match your outfit. I can definitely see why this kind of shade has become a cult favorite! Gotta Glow is considered to be a universally flattering shade & is recommended for anyone who doesn’t know where to begin with blush and just wants to pick a color they feel pretty sure about (which can be tricky when buying makeup online, I know!). Gotta Glow can be applied lightly for a super soft wash of color or it can be built or applied in a big rush & still manage to look amazing!
*Note* Gotta Glow is the only shade that has a minute amount of bismuth oxychloride, listed waaay down at the bottom of the “may be included” ING. Bismuth has a lot of controversy surrounding it due to allergy concerns and issues of worsening acne-prone skin. When I first tried Bare Minerals, their Original Foundation lists Bismuth as the second ingredient, which means it’s predominantly Bismuth making up the formula, and that’s when you’ll find issues that arise. It’s FAR too much in that instance. In the case of Gotta Glow, it’s a trace amount of Bismuth in comparison. If I had a business, I might have personally tried to choose a different alternative simply to avoid controversy. The alternative is usually Boron Nitride, which gives that “sheen” that Bismuth provides, however, Boron Nitride actually bothers my skin even more than bismuth when it’s in higher concentrations😅🤷♀️! So, we’re all different and trace amounts of Bismuth in blush should not be a concern for the majority of people. But that’s just my two cents!
M’Lady: This is the first blush shade I purchased & it’s my most used, for sure! Plus, how stinkin’cute is the name?? It’s also the hardest shade to accurately capture on camera 🤷♀️. The best way I can describe M’Lady is that it’s literally my natural “blush” in blush form with perfectly balanced warm & cool tones of rose with Mauve undertones & a subtle hint of sheen for a total skin-like effect. Our skin isn’t actually totally matte if you look close! Healthy skin has a slight glow and this blush mimics that perfectly! This shade is also one of the more pigmented shades, so this would work really well for deeper skin tones, as well! It’s actually recommended for medium, olive-toned skin on the RAL site, and yet, I love it on my super fair skin! This shade adds such a nice, subtle contour effect, so it really makes my cheek bones pop, slims my round face down, & is another shade that goes with anything!
Now we move onto the matte, warmer shades.
Coy: Coy is a matte peach with a hint of melon & just a dallop of salmon to create a gorgeous peaches & cream blush shade on fair skin tones! 😍 For my fellow Gilmore Girls fans out there👏, Coy gives me that naturally flushed, peaches n cream look that Rory was always rocking! Coy may look intimidating in the pan, but it’s one of those buildable shades & I feel like there’s even more wiggle room with the matte shades in deciding how much you want to take it up or down a notch! Although, this particular shade is recommended for medium, olive skin-tones on their site, it brings life to the face and the soul for any complexion! This is the type of shade that will bring some warmth into your life, wherever you are☀️✨.
Tango: Tango is a true, mid-toned, matte peach through & through! This is definitely another Peaches N Cream type shade on me, but it also really pops on deeper skin tones!! It’s very similar to Coy without the salmon, melon undertones. I love matching my outfit to my blush and Tango looks amazing with any warm toned outfit! It also looks like a very natural flush, despite being a warm peach, as you can see from the above photos. I’m only wearing clear lip balm & I love the effect! So, if warmer, natural toned blushes are up your alley, Tango should not disappoint!
Good Vibes: is a gorgeous burnt peachy shade with tangerine undertones that adds the perfect amount of warmth to my face! I love using this shade not only as a blush, but also lightly around the perimeter of my face to warm up my features, and I always dab just a little on my nose for a cohesive look. Good Vibes blush has just a touch of sheen that gives a lit from within glow to the face. Whenever my soul is craving abundant sunshine, I immediately reach for Good Vibes blush, which is the perfect name for this shade! In the Fall, I can imagine myself thinking of this color as a totally wearable Pumpkin Spice type shade!
Lastly, RAL also carries a bronzer!
Sundrop Bronzer: is a matte neutral bronzer leaning ever so slightly warm that can work as a bronzer when applied all over the face where the sun hits, or more as a contour to define one’s cheekbones. It’s the type of shade that isn’t too warm or too cool & is definitely NOT orange in any way! This shade is also build able and very easy to work with, so if you’ve been on the fence about bronzer, but would like to explore it, Sundrop is a great place to start! And you can snag it with one of the Blush & Bronzer bundles, too. It also makes the perfect crease shade as an eyeshadow! *I don’t have a photo of me because I found it hard to capture just bronzer without blush and when I took photos with blush, you wouldn’t be able to tell what the shade is, anyway. If you need an arm swatch, let me know! ***Photos have been added up top, by request! Here you go! 😘*** RAL is also great with adding helpful photos on their site 👍.
Final Thoughts & ✨Coupon Code✨
I’ve been really enjoying testing & experimenting with each shade! As I said in the beginning of my post, these blushes are so finely milled, they really do become one with the skin & remind me so much of the Hourglass Blush/Powder formula without nano particles & extra nasties in the ingredients! With that said, the shades with sheen offer more immediate pigment and longevity than the completely matte shades. M’Lady, Gotta Glow, Dolly last the longest on my skin. The matte shades usually need a touch up around the 8 hour mark. If Dolly is applied as a blush topper to add a bit of sheen & dimension, the matte shades last as long as the rest of the line. With that said, these are not the longest lasting blushes I’ve ever tried, most likely due to how finely milled they are. We’re also in the heart of summer and during the cooler months, I give plenty of kisses to my toddler son 🤗😂, which also affects how well anything will hold up on my skin. I also have very oily skin, so blushes tend to wear off more quickly. You can still get a full day of wear if you’re indoors and aren’t rubbing your cheek up against anyone too cute to resist 😅.
My main complaint is the packaging. I’m not a big fan of it because it’s not a compact, so the top comes off and then I find myself trying to hold the blush pan, blush brush, & mirror. Using a small mirror and holding the blush in the same hand is the best way to do it. I would also prefer to have the option of taking the pan out to place into my own palette so I can more easily mix and match shades & use Dolly as a quick blush topper. These are just my two cents on how to make an already great product even better. And after talking to RAL, they have some really fun ideas in store for the future, too! The green beauty realm is only getting more and more interesting & I’m so excited to share what’s new and what I’ve been using and loving myself!
