Honest Beauty Dusk Reflection Luminizer Review

wp-1456359539143.jpg

Dusk Reflection Luminizing Powder from Jessica Alba’s Honest Beauty line is probably my most used and versatile Honest Beauty product. Dusk Reflection is the darkest shade in the Honest Beauty Luminizer line-up. There are three shades in total: a pale beige shade, a peach shade, and a bronze shade. Dusk Reflection is a cool toned bronze shade with a hint of rose and very subtle sheen. When looking closely at the product in the pan, you can see very fine shimmer particles under certain lighting, but these shimmer particles don’t appear once you apply the product on your face.

Dusk Reflection is so versatile because it can be used as a subtle luminizing bronzer, a blush, or as an eyeshadow. It’s my most reached for product from the Honest line because of this versatility. I love how it provides a subtle sheen, rather than overt shimmer! It’s also a very unique bronze color, due to the cooler tones that balance out the warmer bronzey tones, which makes it wearable as a blush, but also bronzey enough to give a beautiful warmth to the skin. This product makes me look so much healthier and it is so incredibly easy to apply! The application is as fool-proof as it gets.

Dusk Reflection is a baked product with a domed shape. I’ve been using this product quite regularly since November of 2015 and there’s only a slight dip in the pan, so this product goes a very long way! I’m not light-handed with this stuff in any way, shape or form, either! I’ve applied it with a blush brush, a dense bronzer brush, a small contouring brush, and all different kinds of eyeshadow brushes. When you see what my product looks like in the pan, you’d have no idea how often I’ve used it by just looking at it.

This product retails for $25.00 and can be found here. Dusk Reflection Luminizing Powder comes in a plastic, silver mirrored compact that looks like metal with a full mirror inside. Total net weight of this product is 10grams/.35 oz.

I go into detail about pricing and the Bundle system when buying from Honest Beauty online in my past review here.

Finger Swatches (product on middle finger):

Arm Swatches:

You can see slightly see the subtle luminosity, but my studio lights weren’t quite picking up the sheen as accurately as I had hoped. Hopefully from these swatches you can get an idea of the warmth of the shade with a rosey undertone. The depth of color is mid-level, therefore, I don’t think this product would work as a bronzer on people who aren’t as ghostly fair as I am. I imagine that people of up to a medium skin tone can use this as a bronzer. Deeper skin tones would look beautiful using this as a luminizer on the cheekbones and/or all over the face!

The best comparison I can give for this product is to compare it to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, which are subtle, sheer, but buildable, and can be used in target areas or all over the face. This is a more natural version of the Ambient Lighting powders!

The texture is smooth, applies evenly and easily, and blends beautifully on the skin with a wide range of brushes. The color is buildable.

Ingredients: Mica, Silica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Lauroyl Lysine, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Tocopherol, Hectorite, Sodium Dehydroacetate. May Contain +/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491/77492/77499)

      1. I dont actually know what natural comestics really means, is it really straight forward and just meaning the product was made without harsh chemicals? I really want to start using more cruelty-free makeup so I’d love to try out her brand if you recommend it!

      2. Natural cosmetics means that the products aren’t made with fillers or harmful ingredients that are found in many conventional makeup brands. My blog focuses on health and wellness in general, but I have many posts on different natural makeup brands that you can read about. It’s hard to explain all that I’ve learned in the past ten years, but each of my posts gives a little bit of info. I would suggest that you start reading ingredients. The more you can’t understand, the more likely it’s harmful for you. The Honest Company is a natural line of makeup, which only uses naturally derived ingredients without fillers. Hope this helps a little bit!

      3. Thanks for the brief explanation, I never read the ingredients in my makeup so I’m going to start doing that from now on. I’ll definitely give your other posts a read to try and learn more! xx
