Red Apple Lipstick Limited Edition 2018 Spring Releases!

I’m so excited to bring you a review and lip swatches of Red Apple Lipstick’s new Limited Edition for Spring Relaunch of 4 customer favorites (Available April 13th!) in shades: Petal Pusher, Crush on Me, Sweet Pea, and Kiss on the Chic. Red Apple Lipstick (RAL) has been my favorite Lipstick brand for almost 5 years now!! Although, these four shades were sent to me for my review, I have purchased at least two dozen of their lipsticks over the years and have tried all of their formulas with my own money (for more information on the actual brand, please check out my original review here). The original formula (mild berry scent) and Summer Passion (mild vanilla scent) formula are my favorites, however, each formula definitely has its place. The four shades in this Spring Release are almost all different formulas, but none are from the more recent Instant Color line, which has full opacity with one swipe. The shades in this line have buildable coverage, which makes each shade far more wearable than if each shade had full on opacity on the lips. I personally don’t mind the Instant Color formula and happen to absolutely adore Chai Love You lipstick (its actually one of my favorite shades of all time!), but my mother finds each shade she’s tried in that line to be too harsh on her. I only mention this to convey that some of these shades may look intimidating, but they’re actually very wearable across a wide range and tastes! There are two cooler-toned options and two warmer-toned options, so there’s a color to please everyone for the warmer months!

My 17 month old son happens to think that the bottom of the RAL lipstick tubes are the most amazing teethers of all time, so beware!! Keep out of reach of all teething babies and toddlers, lol. He also thinks that the fact that they roll on the floor is the coolest thing ever! Hours of entertainment can be found in rolling a lipstick tube all over the living room floor. Who knew!? Don’t worry, I’ve since put them in a safe place on my vanity where little people can’t reach.

Let’s get down to the color descriptions and lip swatches!

Swatches

Here are some arm swatches of the lipsticks:

*note: I generously swatched these to show their color. Each shade is pigmented like a lipstick, but are build-able.

Left to Right: Petal Pusher, Crush on Me, Kiss on the Chic, and Sweet Pea

Lip Swatches

Petal Pusher:

Petal Pusher is a medium-toned, vibrant rose pink with a hint of purple & microshimmer that’s far more wearable than you would ever imagine by looking at it in the tube and by looking at it swatched! What makes this shade work so well is that it’s actually neutral in tone, so it’s not too cool or too warm, and it’s vibrant, but not neon! RAL never uses artificial lake dyes in their lipsticks, so thankfully this isn’t Barbie pink at all. When I first saw this shade online, Barbie pink is the first thought that crossed my mind, but I was wrong! If anything, this is an uber wearable take on the Barbie pink lip concept. On my mom, it’s the most beautiful medium rose pink that doesn’t necessarily look vibrant, but it still livens up her features and is just stunning… My mother has blonde hair and hazel eyes and I can definitely see why RAL recommends this shade for blondes! It’s a match made in heaven.

This shade is also from the original formula, so the color is buildable and so incredibly moisturizing! I never need to use a lip balm in addition to these lipsticks in this formula. Even though this is a shade I would never ordinarily even consider when purchasing online, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to try it out and step out of my comfort zone. It feels good to be free and I’m really looking forward to rocking this shade all spring and summer long!!

Crush on Me:

Crush on Me is a super fun and girly light, cool-toned sparkly pink with lavender undertones. It has some pretty strong silver shimmer that makes me think of fairy dust and all things whimsical! The shimmer does linger a bit after the color has worn off, but any residual shimmer looks pretty when I add a lip tint on top. Honestly, this shade is so moisturizing and creamy that it actually feels and acts like a tinted lip balm! This shade would probably work the best for people with cool and neutral undertones. I have fair skin with warm undertones, for reference, and I still feel like I can pull it off. I think this is because the color is on the sheer side and is super moisturizing, so it performs more like a lip tint that can be layered for more opacity and color payoff. There’s a wide range with this shade, which makes it more wearable across the board. This color brings out the inner child in me and it makes me really happy! It’s such a fun, free spirited shade to brighten up one’s day.

Kiss on the Chic:

Kiss on the Chic is the most wearable, medium pearlescent coral shade I’ve ever tried. This shade has no scent. Corals, despite their immense popularity (because they work so well for the majority of people of all skintones), aren’t my favorite on me. Corals can be too bright or too orange for my comfort level and matte corals with cream finishes (no sheen) tend to appear the harshest on the lips. For reference, Coral Crush is the only shade I’ve ever returned to RAL because I wasn’t a fan of the color on me (they have an amazing return policy!). Kiss on the Chic, in comparison, has the perfect level of added sheen that makes this coral shade super flattering. It’s vibrant without being intense, if that makes sense. I don’t feel self conscious while wearing this shade and I feel that it’s definitely a daytime appropriate shade that can even be worn at the office. In my opinion, this is a flirty, yet sophisticated coral that would be beautiful for any age range. This shade is what I imagine when I think of hot summer days and abundant sunshine.

Sweet Pea:

Sweet Pea has a cream finish and is a warm toned burnt orange/terracotta shade with an undertone of peachy-rose to balance it out. For anyone who may be familiar with Root’s lipstick in Bell, that shade is too orange for me, but I loved the idea of it. Sweet Pea is exactly what I was hoping Bell would look like (on me) and I’m really excited about that! This particular formula has no scent and stays put for quite some time. I don’t find it to necessarily be as moisturizing as the other shades, but it makes up for it in wear time. Sweet Pea is a sophisticated and playful shade that is not only perfect for the upcoming warmer months, it would also be beautiful in the Fall!

Out of all four lipsticks, it’s so hard to pick a favorite… I feel like each lipstick brings out a different element of spring and summer to me and I love each shade for different reasons and occasions. If I had to choose, I’d probably say Sweet Pea because I can imagine reaching for that shade for any time of day and occasion, but only time will tell which shade I’ll be reaching for the most. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts in the near future!

Rallye Balm

Rallye Balm is the most amazing vegan lip balm I’ve ever tried. You’ve heard me rave about the Kari Gran lip whip, which isn’t vegan and the tub style packaging is definitely not my favorite. Since I first tried Rallye Balm, I’ve given a tube as gifts every Christmas and have 2 or 3 floating around my house at all times. Long story short, it works! It really does… You can read more about it from Red Apple Lipstick

Each of these four shades is Limited Edition and is only available until each shade sells out (Until next Spring). If you head to Red Apple Lipstick’s Instagram page @redapplegirls, you can register for the sale, which officially starts this Friday, April 13th! If you purchase through my Link HERE, you would be supporting me and it means so much to me!Β Use code Clarity15 for 15% off your order of $50 or more (with free shipping in the US). RAL also offers additional discounts if you purchase more than one lipstick and you can add a Rallye Balm with a lip exfoliator for a discounted price, as well!

That about wraps it up! It still feels like we’re in the heart of winter here in the Northeast, so I’ll be dreaming of warmer, sunny days as I wear these shades until Spring finds its way to my side of the world! I hope you find abundant sunshine and blessings to make your day that much more beautiful wherever you are!

Love and light,

Julie

  1. Wow, all of these look amazing on you! Great review that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I would so use your link to support you (isn’t it amazing that we can support each other just by using each other links?) but there’s a little thorny issue of international shipping costs, and we’ve discussed those already. RAL is a great line, and they need to come to Europe too πŸ’•
